The native sync handles basic contact push from HubSpot to Mailchimp but does not pull engagement data back or sync unsubscribes from Mailchimp to HubSpot. For bi-directional sync and engagement tracking, use a Make or Zapier workflow. API rate limits: Mailchimp allows 10 concurrent connections and a maximum of 10 requests per second. Batch operations (lists/members endpoint) support up to 500 members per request. HubSpot allows 100 requests per 10 seconds. Key gotcha: Mailchimp audience member lookup requires the MD5 hash of the lowercase email, not the email itself. Mailchimp merge fields must be pre-created in the audience settings before you can write to them via API. The Mailchimp API returns paginated results (max 1,000 per page), so large audience syncs require pagination handling. Be aware of SPAM Act (Australian anti-spam legislation) requirements: both systems must respect unsubscribes, and the sync must not re-subscribe contacts who have opted out.
