Data Enrichment

Data enrichment adds context and depth to existing data by merging it with supplementary information from other sources. It transforms basic records into richer, more useful datasets that support deeper analysis and better decision-making.

Types of data enrichment:

• Demographic enrichment: Adding demographic data (age, income, education) to customer records
• Firmographic enrichment: Adding business data (industry, size, revenue) to company records
• Geographic enrichment: Adding location data (suburb, state, coordinates, ABS statistical areas)
• Behavioural enrichment: Adding engagement and interaction data from multiple touchpoints
• Social enrichment: Adding social media profiles and activity
• Technographic enrichment: Adding technology usage data (what tools a company uses)

Enrichment sources:

• Public data: ABS Census data, ABN Lookup, government open data
• Commercial providers: Dunn & Bradstreet, Experian, illion for business data
• APIs: Google Maps for geocoding, Clearbit for company data
• Internal data: Combining data from different internal systems
• Third-party data: Purchased datasets for specific enrichment needs

Enrichment process:

• Match: Link existing records to enrichment sources (using ABN, email, address, etc.)
• Validate: Verify the quality of matched data
• Merge: Add enrichment fields to existing records
• Deduplicate: Resolve any duplicates created during enrichment
• Maintain: Keep enriched data current through regular refreshes

Privacy considerations:

• Ensure enrichment activities comply with the Australian Privacy Principles
• Only collect and use data that is reasonably necessary
• Be transparent about data enrichment in your privacy policy
• Consider consent requirements when combining personal data from multiple sources
• Maintain data quality and accuracy obligations
